My Five Beauty Obsessions: Mariana Chambers

My Five Beauty Obsessions: Mariana Chambers

Mariana Chambers loves to look great while zipping around lower Manhattan on her California Cruiser, which is why she founded GiveLoveCycle with her DC-based friend, Debra Zusin. The fashion-forward company makes chic, functional bike bags (see above!) that can tote helmets and shoes.

But a super-cute bag isn’t Chambers’ only bike-based beauty need. “Sunscreen is definitely the most essential product for city cyclists,” she says. “I tend to get dark spots from the sun, and I will never leave without sunscreen—in winter, rain, summer, it doesn’t matter.”

We found out which sun protector she’s slathering on, and what other products keep her pedaling pretty…

1. Weleda Baby Calendula Weather Protection Cream ($11) Made of pure beeswax and lanolin, this intense moisturizer was intended to shield baby skin against the harsh cold winter months. I slather it on my hands when I come home from my day, as I like to ride my bike with fingerless gloves. I also put a generous amount on at night and sleep with organic cotton gloves to help lock in moisture overnight.

2. Earth Science Clarifying Facial Wash and Scrub ($7) I alternate from the wash to the scrub every three days. The wash is mild enough to never dry my skin but strong enough to clean deep down inside my pores. The scrub gently exfoliates dead cells away and helps give my skin a healthy glow.

3. Jurlique Sun Lotion SPF 30 ($54) I use this all-natural light-weight face lotion all year long. It protects me against strong harmful UVA/UVB rays in the summer and winter. I massage two small pumps after the shower on my face and neck every day.

4. Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener ($22) This plant-derived smoothing cream keeps my waist-long locks shiny and wave-free for days. I use a dime sized amount after the shower, and it helps protect my hair from the high heat of the blow dryer. It’s light-weight and smells great.

5. Fresh Sugar Lip Polish ($22.50) This uses real brown sugar to exfoliate my winter dry lips and conditions them with jojoba, grape seed, and other great oils. I use this twice a week in the winter and follow it up with Fresh Lip Treatment with SPF15 in clear. —Lisa Elaine Held

Your Lips And Lipstick

Your Lips And Lipstick

The time is getting short and you are applying make up on your face. It is 5 pm and the wedding party will start at 6pm, it means you have only one hour. Your car is disorder from the last two days, so have a conveyance problem as well. There should be margin for going and coming back. So the time is narrow and you have to do a lot of work, like changing your dress and polishing your shoes, etc. After moisturizing to your face, applying special creams, giving a natural treatment to your eyes, you look like a creature came from the other planet.
Oh! There is still the matter most of lips. Ok, select a natural color lipstick for your lips. But freeze for a movement, I want to say some words about you lips. It may be easier to remember to give your lips special treatment if the skin on your lips really is special. It’s like the inside of your mouth and like the skin on the rest of your body; it is membrane on outer side.  Sun, wind and cold combine with dry, indoor air and bad habits like licking or picking at your lips, to cause cracking and chapping. Licking your lips sets up a vicious circle of dryness and chapping, making you want to lick them more. That’s a tough habit to give up. You have to be well motivated.
Men and women both with chapped lips should use a lip balm every night and keep their lips protected during the day, with a product that contains sunscreen. It’s important to use a balm specially made for your lips rather than a moisturizer you use on your face or the rest of your body. For the most women, lipstick is an additional layer of protection that has definite benefits to offer. Because you lips lack the horny outer layer the rest of your skin has, they’re more exposed to water loss; they’re also more exposed to sun damage. Lipstick, especially if it contains a sunscreen, can help protect this delicate tissue.
But the difference between simply using lipstick and using it knowledgeably is vital. Women still suffer from dry lips more than men, suspect that a contributing reason may be incorrect use of lipstick. Women frequently wipe their lipstick off to apply a new layer. This rubbing removes any protective natural cell layer as well as the old lipstick. Whether removing makeup, lips should always be treated gently. At night, for instance, lipstick should be washed off and the lips blotted dry. For a few of us, lipsticks can actually cause the chapping and peeling they’re meant to prevent. Lipstick allergies are quite uncommon, but if you think this might be your problem, try going without lipstick for several weeks.
If that helps, try using a lipstick that is fragrance-free, since fragrance is what people are most often allergic to in cosmetics. Another possible, but uncommon, cause of chronically dry, chapped lips is an infection. If you’ve been troubled any other infections, you might want to check with your skin doctor about this possibility.
Ah! You are getting late and I don’t want to come
To your way, keep myself aside giving you enough space to move. Surely you are looking perfect in all respect, charming, elegant and graceful. And your lips are attractive and classy, so good bye.

Make Up How To

5 makeup tips for dark-skinned women

alt
Makeup Tips
Fair-skinned women have to be careful when applying makeup to their skin to avoid looking over the top. Women with darker skin tones, on the other hand, can get away with much darker and bolder makeup colors. They don't have to worry as much about applying too much blush or wearing darker eye shadows. However, dark-skinned women can still benefit from following several makeup tips. Keep reading to find out the best ways you can complement your dark complexion.

Use liquid foundation to even out your skin tone

Women with dark complexions often have problems with an uneven skin tone. A good foundation will help even out your skin tone. If you can't find one that matches your skin perfectly, it may help to mix two foundation shades together. After you have moisturized your skin, apply the foundation all over your skin with a flat-top brush or cosmetic sponge.

Don't skip the powder

Makeup Tips

Since darker skin tones tend to get oily, it is important to always use powder. After you have applied your foundation, sweep some translucent powder on your skin with a large powder brush. Carry your powder in your purse so you can touch up your makeup in the middle of the day.

Wear a darker blush color

Fair-skinned women depend on blush to warm up their complexions. Women with darker skin tones can get away with not wearing blush. However, blush is always nice to wear on special occasions. Coral, deep orange and wine blush colors typically look the best on dark complexions. Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks with a blush brush. If your blush is not showing up on your skin, apply a crème blush under it to increase the intensity.

Avoid pale, frosty lip colors

Pale, frosty lip colors look unflattering on dark skin tones. Lilac and nude lip colors tend to wash out women with dark complexions. Choose shades like burgundy, wine, brown, red and plum. Add a clear lip gloss on top so your lips look extra shiny.

Have fun with eye shadow colors

Unlike fair-skinned women, dark-skinned women can get away with wearing a lot of different eye shadow colors. When you are at work or school, apply a gold eye shadow to your eye lids. At night, you can wear blue, green, purple and even copper eye shadows.
Embrace your dark skin by wearing makeup colors that complement it beautifully.
